Foodspotting - this could be for YOU!
...or you might be interested just because it's Alexa's new venture. I just looked through my vast contact list and picked you to introduce this to. Why you? Either because you are a self-declared "foodie" or because you live in an area known for good food or have travelled and developed a taste for good food and are trying to find *the best* of some food item or are always interested in Alexa's newest adventures. I experimented with "Foodspotting" yesterday and really liked it! Alexa's introduction follows - She sent this out last night just before catching a plane for NY City for the public launching of this new undertaking. She was one of only 5 entrepreneurs from among 70 considered who were invited to do this at the Web 2.0 Expo in NY City this week.

We promised you'd be some of the first Foodspotters, and we're excited to be inviting you to the Foodspotting Website Alpha at last! Thank you for your patience and support. Here's the secret signup page -- feel free to share this link privately with friends and family!

While we still have a LOT in development (including the long-awaited iPhone app), we'll be introducing our beta to the public at the Web 2.0 Expo Launch Pad in New York on Wednesday and wanted to give you the chance to sign up first and get ahead of the game. (The first person to spot a food earns reputation points whenever someone else Wants and Noms it!)
To get started:
1. Find a food and "Want it!" by zooming in to see your neighborhood or out to see sightings around the world using the map.
2. Spot something you've eaten lately by adding a sighting or emailing a photo to food@foodspotting.com.You won't get a confirmation email yet, but you can find and add details to your emailed sightings under Collect.
3. Nom a food you've tried and loved by finding it or adding it.
4. Earn reputation points whenever someone Wants (+10) or Noms (+25) a food you've spotted first.
5. Check back often because more ways to spot foods are coming soon, including the iPhone app and Flickr/Facebook integration!
